Great stories! I have been wanting to get my Italian citizenship for awhile. Was it 10 years difficult? Or as you said fits and starts? On your part or the red tape you had to go through?
Where did you begin?
Any light you could shed on this would be appreciated!
Ciao ciao! Today there are a ton of great companies to help with the process, especially getting the documents in Italy. It was definitely fits and starts for us - and Joey pushed me and us over the finish line. We did use a company at the end of the process to get the apostilles and translations for the documents. The piece that took the most for us was proving that our grandfather never became a US citizen before his death. Hope that helps! ๐
Thanks! I will do some google research. I know that my paternal grandparents became US citizens, I have their naturalization documents. I know ver little about my maternal side! Time to do some digging!
We will and have tried a few times to ring the bell, but you were probably in Italy! I'm on crutches at the moment so when I'm back in my sneakers we will definitely knock!
Love reading your stories Michele. My grandfather was captain of a canal boat at the age of 12. He is mentioned in several books about the Morris and Delaware canals. No doubt he had many stops at your place many years ago. He became a brakeman on the Railroad when canals became obsolete and lived the rest of his life on Warren St in Phillisburg. I too love all of the history that surrounds us.
I loved reading your story and congratulations on your Italian citizenship! Michele, Pete and I pass your home on our canal walks and have wondered about the construction. You and Jay have done an incredible job....what a beautiful setting! I love reading your newsletter, it brings me back to our favorite trips to Italy. Perhaps the Spring will bring a visit together in NH.......Miss you! XO Christina
I stopped at 'pass your home on our canal walks'!!! PLEASE PLEASE come visit - OMG - we are here almost always (doing construction ๐) but please come unannounced. We would sooooooo love to see you!! please, please, please ๐๐ฅฐ๐ท XOXO
