The Italian fish dinner tradition definitely beats the Scandinavian one. Every year, our Christmas Eve dinner was built around lutefisk-- a whitefish concoction similar to baccala, except that it's cured in lye. Great if you're a Viking-- not so much for anyone else. Turned all the silverware black.
